Gone, but Never Forgotten.

Sunday, May 7 2006. The day that will never be forgotten by us Gooners. The day that shed with tears and honor. The day, we say goodbye to the mighty Highbury.

It is the final salute for Highbury. For 93 years, Highbury has witnessed the fall and rise of the Gunners. After 93 years, Arsenal has to surrender to the pressure of a bigger stadium needs. 93 freaking years.

Sunday, May 7 2006. The final match that will be held in Highbury, ever. Against Wigan Atheletic. To be more traumatic, we were in fifth position, 1 point differed us from our arch rival Totenham Hotspurs to take the final position for the next season's Champions League. We must win this game, with the hope that Spurs might lose or draw with West Ham.

Sunday, May 7 2006. The crowd were fanstastic. Very fantastic indeed. Everybody is wearing wether a white or a red T-shirt, which wrote "I was here, Arsenal vs Wigan, Sunday May 7, 2006." They formed a red and white stripes around the stadium.

Sunday, May 7 2006. Despite the well started, the Gunners were down to 1 - 2 before Henry level up right before the half time. It was still not good enough, as Hotspurs were also drawn 1 - 1 in West Ham.

Sunday, May 7 2006. The second half goes underway. Henry scored the Gunners third goal but the fourth goal from him was emotionally superb. It was just a penalty, but Henry reaction's by kissing the field turf right after he scored, was adorable. Everybody was touched by his reaction. It was even better when Hotspurs conceded a goal. They were now down 2 - 1 to West Ham.

Sunday, May 7 2006. 79 minutes. Dennis Bergkamp came in as a late substitute. Everybody stood up and gave a standing ovation to the Dutch Master. It was a very honorable moment.

Sunday, May 7 2006. The game is over. Arsenal will go through to the next season's Champons League. Everything was perfect. The crowd, the player, the game, the stadium.

Highbury will now be gone. But it will never be forgotten. The new stadium situated just a few hudred yards away, but Highbury will always remain in the Gooners heart. After 93 years, and 1010 games, it is time to say goodbye. Thank you Highbury, for all the memories.

We sure will miss you.

Adios
